Throughout the first part of 2012, there have been unprecedented losses within the music and entertainment business. It has not been the mourning of a single superstar but a loss of a series of talented artists and public figures. While we adore them from afar, there are several ways that they took the lead and made us appreciate them.
Just taking a closer look at a few greats is a way to showcase their superstar status. Here are a few brief examples of their contributions.
Known for his contributions on the “Andy Griffith Show” and “Mayberry R.F.D”, he was a fixture on black and white television as Goober Pyle. When responding to being asked did he know that others thought he had a big mouth he responded with such innocence, “Yeah, but I don’t pay no attention to ‘em.” – George Lindsey, actor

Known for the soul-stirring “At Last”, she claimed status in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame in a career that spanned 50 years. – Etta James, singer
With a magical voice when she burst onto the scene in the 1980s. Whitney Houston set the trend on pop and R&B charts and stayed at the helm for years. Her cross over into acting and her enduring legacy to the music industry will be celebrated for years to come. – Whitney Houston, pop music queen
He revolutionized women’s hair styles and created innovative geometric hair styles, unique hair products, and a new wave of signature salons. – Vidal Sassoon, hair/fashion designer
He introduced the world to rock and roll through the “American Bandstand” television program and became a fixture with the annual New Year’s Rock ‘n’ Eve. – Dick Clark, television icon
She worked hard for the money and served as a fixture in the disco music paved the way for techno and retro music trends more than 20 years later. – Donna Summer, first lady of disco
What inspiration we can get from those who have set the trend. Maybe we can all be inspired to lead the way like they did.
