Malala Yousafzai is a girl with a voice where sadly women remain voiceless. She has come to be a speaker for those who cannot speak up. She is an advocate for those who cannot fight injustice done without consequence.
On October 9, 2012 Malala was riding a bus home when a gunman boarded the vehicle and shot her in the head. Her road to recovery led her treatment and to her new quest for equity.
As you read the recent headlines, Malala was named as a recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.
She is an advocated for the right of education to all children. Education is not a right, but a privilege in many corners of the world. Millions of children are not afforded on a gender. It was not long ago that the United States was the place where countless people of color were denied a right to an education.
Only in recent years, the fight for educational rights of girls has gained global awareness, due in due to the efforts of Malala. Let this not be the last fight for equity for access to education.
