The year is practically over and there is still much work to be done. Recently, I pulled out my 2012 bucket list and realized I am not even halfway done. How did that happen?
Of course, letting goals and dreamy ideas slip by happens to the best of us. Sometimes it happens when we do not plan. Other times it happens when someone else’s priorities replace our own. More often than not, life just happens. And the latter is what happened to me.
There are no leadership books or gurus I can consult regarding my half-completed 2012 bucket list. But, I can take a proactive look at what must be done from here. Why? It will neither be productive nor helpful to ponder what I did not do. There is no sense is fretting over nine months of the year that just flew by. But, all I can do is move towards next steps with completing my “to do list” and move forward. Any leader would do the same.
Without fanfare, I’ll scope out how I can make the most of the next 12 weeks. Taking charge of the situation; however, will require some extra attention. In fact, Bucket List 2012 might even require pulling up Microsoft Project to ensure success! At this point, the tasks are just that serious to require my full attention and focus. Setting priorities on a daily basis and creating milestones will help. Writing this out in the context of leading the way with Bucket List 2012 is a first step.
Without further ado, let me get back to my action plan focused on making the most of the remainder of 2012. There’s no time to waste being distracted by holiday sales, miscellaneous paparazzi coverage, or unproductive bickering from TV or radio show talking heads. No, I plan to push out the insignificant and plow past the meaningless.
With December 31st on the horizon, there’s a lot of work to do to accomplish the following:
1. Watch the sun set at the beach
2. Check out a few live jazz performances
3. Support favorite local farmer’s markets
4. Organize at least one photo album of 2012 favorite fun
5. Touch base with family elders at least once a week
6. Walk in the park and lose track of time
7. Visit favorite museum exhibits
