With half the year already over, it seems reasonable to have a mid-point to pause and reflect about 2012.
However, that does not mean that we should just look back at what just happened. On the contrary, it is important to think about next steps and about going forward. It seems to be an occasion to consider where we have been and where we are going.
While many people will check on progress annually around the holiday season, others do so quarterly or more frequently. Whatever technique is used, it is a good idea to plan ahead and to take ownership of any next move. Doing so will go a long way in the end. Taking stock includes looking at successes, assessing shortfalls, and managing obstacles. In this way, there will be a plan of action.
Looking forward means charting out where you have been. Reflecting about what has happened gives you an opportunity to be in the driver’s seat. Hence, there is proactive decision-making to strategize and maneuver future decisions.
Hats off and three cheers for those taking a moment to take personal responsibility for next steps in 2012!
