Will your decision-making stand the ultimate test? As a leader, you must do what it takes to makes sure that your action at the helm is leadership proof.
If you have ever been in the hot seat for leading a project, directing a team, or serving a community endeavor you know that your success does not always come easy.
First, there are challenges along the way. What kind of triple-ply plan will you have when your “plan A” does not work? Do you have alternatives already lined up? If not, it is time to start thinking about backup strategies.
Also, when you take on leading others there will sometimes be obstacles to avoid. These are not always what you think. Often these can be issues you can see approaching down the road. Other times, there are issues directly in front of you. Regardless, it will be your responsibility to step aside to ensure your leadership success.
Without even knowing it there are too often unforeseen circumstances. Just look at the recent east coast earthquakes with an epicenter 60 miles from Richmond, Virginia. And what about the hurricane Irene that was expected to hit the south and devastated several New England communities? From the flooding that resulted, leaders in New Jersey and New York were quick to respond with emergency response teams.
To be prepared for any leadership role requires securing the best training and guidance. That way you’ll be prepared for anything. And if you take just a few precautions then you will make your tenure at the helm leadership proof.
