What an exciting week connecting strangers and friends. After more than 20 years working in the “relationship-building” industries, I was delighted this week to make some extraordinary introductions happen.
No, I am not talking about the fact that I met some larger-than-life celebrity. I am not talking about hanging on the hem of a garment of a political spin doctor. I’m not even talking about rubbing elbows with the rich and famous.
On the contrary, I was able to connect with long-time and more recent friends alike and to connect them with each other. What fun! At a recent book signing, a mentor from 25 years ago was in the audience to support me. That really meant a lot that she was there. It was there that I introduced her to a more recent friend who could really benefit from her wisdom.
On another occasion, I was able to link two strangers based on one having a request to meet someone with connections “inside the beltway.” Who knew that my youthful days as a Capitol Hill aide with an insider’s perspective would prove useful to connect contacts more than 20 years into the future? With a quick telephone call and the click of the mouse and “send” button, off went my introduction.
Then there were the random connections between two people who I thought would be perfect to get better acquainted based on their future interests. With the click of a button on Facebook, they were instantly connected. Ah, the power of connecting the dots and technology!
Thank goodness that so many of us get the message about the power of being interconnected. I guess it holds true that no man is an island.
